Going off the rails with family plans?

Hey Reader

Let me ask you something...

Are you like me?

You know... you've had some great family adventures so far this year, but you still focus on that list of "must-do" activities you made back in January that's been sitting untouched on your phone?

To the point that maybe you ignore all the beach days and playground discoveries, and instead just feel guilty about not being the "organised family activities coordinator" you thought you'd become this year?

Yeah. Me too.

I figured I wasn't the only one, so I'm just reaching out to let you know that hey! You aren't alone in it.

In fact, your Geelong with Kids newsletter writer is right here with you, looking at her ambitious "2025 Family Goals List" and realising we're already in October and half of it is still undone.

Let's give each other some grace, shall we?

The truth is, some of the best family memories happen when we're not following any plan at all. When we just say "let's go see what's happening" and end up discovering something wonderful we never would have found on a carefully curated list.

Anyway... enough about that. You're on this list because you want to know what's happening around Geelong for families.

So here's what I've got for you this week - a mix of planned events and those beautiful "just turn up and see what happens" kind of spots that make spring in Geelong so special for families.

Keep going. You're doing better than you think.

Joyce xx

Christmas Events at National Wool Museum Geelong

Hey Reader December is almost upon us, the calendar's almost full, the fridge is starting to overflow with leftovers from end-of-year parties… and the kids are somehow more energetic than ever. But I wanted to pause for just a moment and ask: What does this time of year look like for you? Do you celebrate Christmas? Hanukkah? Something else entirely? Or maybe you're someone who skips the traditions and just savours the slow mornings and extra family time. In our house, it's Christmas complete...

Hey Reader Last week, I made the classic mistake of booking three activities in one weekend. By 2pm on Saturday everyone was cranky, someone was crying (might have been me), and we ended up at McDonald's because I hadn't planned properly. So here are some quick do's and don'ts for actually enjoying your weekends: Do pick one main activity per day with buffer time for meltdowns and ice cream breaks. Don't try to cram multiple events into one day. Do check opening hours and book ahead—November...

Hey Reader Can I save you from a complete family meltdown this weekend? Picture this: Everyone's in costume, you arrive at the event and... there's literally nowhere to park. Cue 25 minutes of driving in circles while a vampire and a princess have breakdowns in the backseat. Here's what seasoned Geelong parents do: Check Facebook events for parking info, arrive stupidly early, or park at a nearby shopping centre and walk. Sometimes the 10-minute walk saves you 30 minutes of car-based chaos....
