Pink lakes, surfing, and why I ditched corporate law

Hi there Reader

Did you know my first job out of uni was as a corporate lawyer? Oh yes. Sitting in glass offices and cubicles, working long hours, marking up documents over and over.

A lot has changed since then and I could not be happier with what I do now.

I have just as much passion for this work since starting Geelong with Kids earlier this year. It’s truly amazing that I get to use my writing skills, just in a different way.

The most incredible thing about this work?

  • I help parents and carers to make happy memories with their kids.
  • I inspire families to get out and explore their neighbourhood, backyard, region and state with their families.
  • I get to work from home, with a fully remote team, and I can work hours that suit my personal commitments.
  • I don’t have to answer to a boss. I AM the boss!

So thank you. Thank you so much for being a part of this. I can’t imagine doing anything different.

Joyce xx

P.S. What do you love the most about what you do? Hit reply and let me know.

Fair warning: explaining the salt-loving algae to a 4-year-old is optional, but the photo opportunities are mandatory.

Hey Reader Since I last emailed you, I've been thinking about how unique our little corner of the internet really is. We seem to be one of the only newsletters dedicated specifically to parents and carers of young kids in Geelong, Bellarine and Surf Coast – which honestly surprised me when I realised it, but also makes me pretty excited about what we're building together. It's made me reflect on a few other things about our little Geelong With Kids community: We've grown to over 130 readers,...

Adventure Park Winter Glow

Hey Reader You know what made my week? Discovering that there's a Museum of Modern (f)Art where kids can climb through a replica fatberg. I mean, who knew learning about what goes down the drain could be so entertaining? It got me thinking about all the wonderfully weird and amazing things happening around Geelong that we might be missing out on. So here's this week's collection of the unexpected, the magical, and the downright fun (fatberg included). Joyce xx P.S. Help me settle a debate -...

And just because we're embracing the cozy vibes doesn't mean we're hibernating—there's still plenty happening around Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast to keep the kids...
